Giants of the Rainforest — Atherton Tablelands

The Curtain Fig Tree

This amazing fig tree is only minutes from Yungaburra and has a wheelchair accessible boardwalk. The fig's aerial roots, growing originally from a seed deposited high in a host tree, have completely overtaken the host tree and now form a 'curtain' reaching to the ground.

Cathedral Fig Tree

Found in the rainforest off the Lake Tinaroo circuit road (Boar Pocket Road) is similar to the Curtain Fig Tree near Yungaburra. Wheelchair assessible.

Giant Red Cedar Tree

Found in the rainforest at the end of Gadgarra Road, near Lake Eacham. It's a short walk through rainforest to this splendid example of the many hundreds of huge red cedar trees that drew the pioneers to this area.
