Birdwatching on the Atherton Tablelands

Hasties Swamp NP

Only a few minutes drive from Atherton is this wetlands area with a purpose-built two-story birdhide. It is a popular stopover for many species including magpie geese, ducks, and brolgas. Wheelchair assessible.

Bromfield Swamp

Not far from Malanda is this extinct volcanic crater with a marshy base, a favourite with brolgas and magpie geese. Viewing platform is wheelchair assessible.

Mareeba Wetlands

The turnoff for this 5000 acre wetlands is several km north of Mareeba. There is an excellent interpretative centre with bushwalking tracks and canoe hire. Wheelchair accessible.
